How i wish I could drive the PT Cruiser right now...how I WOULD drive it if I could.
Last night I found out that my mom scheduled an Escape Room experience when we visit her in May. I didn’t even now such a thing existed until then.
To my understanding, it’s where you and some friends/family must figure out how to escape a room in 60 minutes. There are clues within the room, that link to other clues, and then other clues, and so on; until you find the key to escape. I gather it’s at least an hour’s worth of finding clues, and not something incredibly simple.
Her reasoning is that dad and I will have a blast, which I think is sorta funny. Out of the whole family, dad and I are the most analytical. Dad knows a lot of stuff, and I’m the type of person who’ll go out of my way to learn something new because it mildly interested me. For example, asking a car blog questions about cars because I wanted to know how something worked, :).
So this will be an interesting experience. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to escape, but it’ll test my analyzing skills, which I am proud of and I really hope my kid gets too, to the test.

That sounds kind of embarassing if it’s like a team thing.

It’s pretty fun, there are quite a few of them in NYC. Don’t be afraid to start moving things around and looking under stuff, some clues will be staring at you in the face while others are quite adept at hiding.

So like
999
and
Zero Escape: Virtues Last Reward
IRL? Those are fun games but a lot of people tend to end up dead.

I was planning on moving stuff around. I don't intend to lose easily, :).

I'm not familiar with those games, but probably yes. Lol

I'm guessing my dad or I will probably take the lead. Though my specialty is staring at something until it makes sense, lol.

I am already sensing endless sitcom plot possibilities.

I’ve done one. It’s basically a team game where you have to solve puzzles to open locks.
Interesting concept, and if you really want, cosplay as Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby.
Bonus points if you arrive in a van painted as The Mystery Machine.

They’re DS games. Very visual novel-ish. First takes place on a boat, second in a big underground facility after a catastrophic event on the surface. Gameplay is essentially going room to room having to solve the mystery of the room and each time you do it helps to provide a clue to the overall plot/escape. Different choices lead to different survivors/truly solving the mystery or not. ZE:VLR has an overall prisoner’s dilemma going on which is pretty fun as well. There’s actually a ton of games in the genre, but 999 and ZE:VLR are definitely my preference among them.
There’s an IOS version of ZE:VLR (maybe 999, IDK) but apparently they removed a ton of the puzzles for mobile gamers for some reason...Makes no sense to me, I'd stick with the DS ones. Supposedly there's going to be a third in the series this year, but the last was released in like 2011 or something so development's been dragging and I'm not holding my breath.

Will have to ask my mom if we can wrap her Kia Sorento as the mystery machine.

Well...they did make a 3rd Golden Sun game, so miracles do happen....waiting for the fourth one now, :/.

MrsZtp said there was one there too. It's weird how I'm hearing about this stuff now, lol.

If it’s like the video game ones and you want a leg up I’d review the classic logic puzzles (two guards two doors, tower of Hanoi, sliding block puzzles, basic cyphers, 3 jug problems, chess puzzles, determining peoples ages/relationships/clothing from a weird set of clues, fitting a series of blocks into a shape, matchstick problems, etc.) Probably wouldn’t go so far as to practice them, that’d defeat some of the fun, but being able to recognize the genre of a puzzle will get you to actually working out a solution rather than spinning your wheels trying to figure out where to start. Oh, and clocks almost always mean something...especially if they’re stopped.

I took a group of high school students through one as a field trip last week. It was definitely worth doing, I found the smaller rooms moreally fun.

I have no Idea how big this one is, hmm...

Should be listed on their website. The one we went to had three rooms, one was 5 to 7 people, another was 6 to 8, and the last one was 8 to 12. We had 21 people so they split us up and everyone did the larger one and one of the smaller ones.

The place we are headed to just has two rooms. The one my mom choose is the easier of the two.

Will do. In 10 weeks I'm headed to Florida for a week to visit my parents. The escape room is down there.

The question is, where in Detroit? Detroit is a bit vague, so it might be the suburbs instead.

Yeah I’ve heard there’s actually a couple in metro detroit.

I’ve been staring at my wife for over 5 years, still haven’t figured her out. She's an enigma that compels me to understand, but I haven't made any ground yet. Except for what she doesn't like, those parts I understand....sort of...
